CI4R Students Earn Awards at 2024 IEEE Radar Conference

CI4R had a great time at the IEEE Radar Conference in Denver, CO (May 6 – 10, 2024). I am so proud of my PhD students Emre Kurtoglu and Sean Kearney, who presented their work at the conference. Emre presented our research relating to “Radar-Based Joint Human Activity and Agility Recognition via Multi-Input Multi-Task Learning” and “Gamification of RF Data Acquisition for Classification of Natural Human Gestures,” for which he was recognized as a Finalist in the Best Student Paper Competition. Sean presented his work on “Single CPI Classification of UAVs using Phaser 10 GHz Phased Array Platform,” for which he won 3rd place in the IEEE Radar Challenge.

I would like to thank our collaborators Dr. Moeness Amin of Villanova University, Dr. Kenneth DeHaan and Dr. Caroline Kobek Pezzarossi of Gallaudet University, Dr. Chris Crawford and Dr. Darrin Griffin of the University of Alabama as well as Jon Kraft of Analog Devices for working with us to make this work possible. Also, special thanks in general to Analog Devices for providing the Phaser kits and sponsoring the IEEE Radar Challenge! They supported students from around the world in working with the Phaser kit as part of the Challenge.
