ASL-Radar team members Drs. Sevgi Z. Gurbuz, Darrin Griffin, and Chris Crawford, and CI4R PhD students Emre Kurtoglu and Ladi Adeoluwa has a wonderful week (4/11-4/15) at Gallaudet University (GU). During the visit, we had many fruitful interactions with GU faculty, especially Dr. Kenneth De Haan, who was our gracious host. We had the opportunity to visit the Motion Light Lab, learn about gestural communications from Dr. Ben Bahan, and have many conversations with staff and students about RF-sensor based ASL-sensitive interactive device design. We are grateful for being offered lab and office space in which we set up our RF sensing system and video cameras to collect needed for algorithm validation of ASL sign recognition, ASL device triggering and command recognition, and recording of natural ASL sentences. We left at the end of the week super-motivated to continue this research and excited for future prospects of closer collaboration with GU faculty. We would also like to thank Dr. Caroline Kobek-Pezzarossi for making the visit possible.
