Text:
F J Levi, Applied Quantum Mechanics, Cambridge University Press, Edition 2, 2006.

Prerequisite:

PHYS 3713 or consent of instructor.

Course syllabus:

In this course, after learning the conceptual and mathematical formulation on each topic, we will explore some of its applications. Ultimately, we will learn topics such as: Quantum mechanical tunneling: Ohmic contact, Esaki & Zener diodes, superlattices; Applications of Hydrogen atom model: doping in semiconductors, exciton; Bandedge states in optical materials; Normal and superconducting states; Perturbation theory: band theory and effective mass, Van der Waals interactions; Variation methods: Exciton in quantum wells; Electron phonon interaction; Phosphors and Fluoresence; Scattering theory and applications: charge carrier transport.
