Text: Semiconductor
Devices Physics
and Technology,
S. M. Sze and M.
K. Lee, 3rd
Edition, 2012 by
John Wiley &
Sons, Inc.
Special days:
No class: Monday
Jan. 20, MLK day;

Exam 3: 10%
Final exam: 30%
Project: 20%
Homework: 20%
Course syllabus:
The course will
cover
fundamentals of
both
semiconductor
physics and
electronic
devices. On the
physics side we
will learn about
fundamental
properties of
semiconductor
materials,
crystal
structure,
charge carriers,
energy bands,
optical
absorption
(direct/indirect),
electrical
properties
(drift/diffusion),
and mobility and
diffusion. On
the device side,
we will learn
about P-N diode,
Schottky
barrier, bipolar
junction
transistor,
metal-oxide-semiconductor
field-effect
transistor
(MOSFET), solar
cells, and
photodiodes.
Application of
COMSOL, a finite
element analysis
solver and
simulation
software, will
be included to
help students
analyze
situations that
they are likely
to encounter in
industry
practice.
Exam Rules:
1. All tests are
closed book and
notes. You may
have one formula
sheet in your
own handwriting
- no typing or
reduction
copying.
2. Calculators
are permitted -
no laptop, ipad.
3. There will be
NO make up test
under any
circumstances.
If the absence
is confirmed by
the professor
(not TA), the
percentage of
the missed test
will be given to
the final exam.
Homework:
The homework
will be
collected at the
start of the
class on the day
that it is due.
Late homework
will NOT be
accepted no
matter what the
reason.
Home works must
be written on
Letter size
papers, stapled
on the top left
corner, with a
cover sheet
indicating your
name, HW number,
and the due
date.
Academic
Integrity:
Homewroks will
be screened for
plagiarism and
academic
integrity.
Copying another
student’s
assignment or
computer
program, turning
in HW that is
identical or
very similar to
others’ HW, or
receiving help
on assignments
without
permission of
the instructor
are violation of
academic
integrity and
will be treated
strictly by OSU
Policy and
Procedures.
Violations will
result in your
being sanctioned
including:
receiving a
failing grade,
receiving a
notation of a
violation of
academic
integrity on
your transcript
(F!), and being
suspended from
the University.
Refer to the OSU
Academic
Integrity
webpage for more
information:

Drop Policy:
OSU regulations
regarding drop
policies will be
followed without
exception.
Disability:
Please review
the OSU
Administrative
Regulations and
Student Policies
as found in the
OSU Catalog.
Anyone who has
any disability
or need which
requires special
