Due to the broad area of the topics discussed in this course, there is no single textbook that covers all the materials.

The experimental techniques will be presented in the labs and the conceptual theories are discussed in the classroom.

Grading Procedure:

Homework: 30% Project: 40% Final exam: 30%

Course syllabus:

This course consists of both theoretical discussions and lab experiments. It provides the basic understanding of the analytical techniques for characterizing physical properties of polymers. The focus will be on vibrational spectroscopy techniques, X-ray diffraction, and electrical and thermal characterizations.

The following topics will be covered:

• Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)

• Raman spectroscopy

• X-ray diffraction

• Electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient measurements

• Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
