Necessary Information to Keep in Mind While Working

14 dBm power corresponds to 25.12 mW power coming from the LASER light.

Modulation of the LASER light

When writing the post, we used TOPTICA CTL as the excitation source. We used the following specifications of the light that was used for modulation:

Operating wavelength: 920 nm

Set Current: 137 mA

LASER power read by the power meter: 4.273 mW

At first, we shall make some DC measurements of the modulator.

LASER power at 0V: 0.89 mW

at 14.920V: 2.268 mW

at 6.130V: 8.96 uW

Efficiency of the EOM at the optimal point (14.920 V) is 2.268/4.273 = 0.54

Extinction ratio = 2.268/0.00896 = 253.125

*** So far, all the data points have been highly affected by drift over time. The points shown here are taken after a ‘long enough’ time after the power meter reading was stable. The next plan is to capture this trend of drifting at different operating voltages. More stable readings can be acquired in a stable temperature condition.
