The Spin-Photon lab is seeking researchers at all levels. If you are fascinated by quantum science or excited about developing quantum technologies, please consider applying.
Graduate Students
Graduate students interested in studying new types of qubits, experimentally realizing protocols of quantum information processing, fabricating and characterizing nanophotonic structures, or building quantum sensors and networks are strongly encouraged to apply.
Students will gain experience in using some of the following tools:
- Experimental: Optical spectroscopy, cryogenics at high magnetic fields, microwave delivery systems, lithography and electron microscopy at the NCSU Nanofabrication Facility (NNF).
- Analytical and computational: simulation toolboxes of open quantum systems, design of nanophotonic structures (FDTD) and microwave waveguides, machine learning, object-oriented programming.
Postdoctoral Researchers
Applicants should have strong prior expertise in one or more of the following fields: (1) Quantum photonics. (2) Quantum information science. (3) Experimental condensed matter physics. (4) Nanofabrication. Experience with optically-active spin systems is a bonus. Postdocs are expected to lead major projects, solve problems independently, develop ideas for new projects and collaborations, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
Undergraduate Students
Motivated students are strongly encouraged to apply. Projects given to undergraduate students will support the lab’s main research directions but will be limited in scope, allowing the students to focus on their classes. Potential projects include (but not limited to): building optical and electronic components for the lab, designing and fabricating cavities and waveguides, automating experimental setups and techniques for data analysis.

Please describe your interests in the group and attach your CV, academic records, and any information you may find relevant.
The Spin-Photon lab is committed to considering applicants from diverse backgrounds based solely on academic grounds, and regardless of their nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, or political perspective. Significant efforts will be made to promote the self-expression of every individual in the group via personal meetings and group events.
