Theodore (Ted) S. Rappaport from New York University, presented a seminar at NCSU ECE on the topic “The wild, wonderful, wide-open, but challenging world of mobile Millimeter Wave Wireless Communications” on Friday, January 20, 2017.

Abstract:

This talk describes the recent discovery and subsequent interest in millimeter wave wireless communications for 5th generation mobile communications technologies, and the revolutionary capabilities that will be coming to your mobile phone over the next few years. Recent research that has led the world to understand the capabilities and promise of ultrawideband millimeter wave wireless communications, and recent government spectrum and standards activities, will be highlighted in this talk. The presentation will show what is possible, and the many challenges that remain for providing ubiquitous fiber-like wireless connectivity to every mobile device – the key enabler for the renaissance of wireless, the Internet of Things, and a future full of applications and service that are hard to fathom today.
