There is a need to use OSPF in MANETs.

Overview

The need for significant changes in OSPF to work in MANETs is well known and there is a special interest group in IETF dedicated to extending OSPF for MANETs (mail-list and repository).

Perhaps the most difficult challenge in adapting OSPF to a MANET environment is its scalability with respect to the total number of nodes. As the number of participants increases it becomes very expensive to disseminate current information to all participants in the network.

The goal of this project is to increase OSPF's scalability in a MANET environment. Using Areas may reduce the OSPF overhead considerably.
