Lectures on Intelligent Control and Systems to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Harbin Institute of Technology

[September 5, 2020] Professor Mo-Yuen Chow presented a key-note lecture on Smart Grid Distributed Energy Management/ Control at Harbin Institute of Technology as part of their lectures on intelligent control and systems to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the school.

The cyberphysical networked microgrids are widely envisioned to be the building blocks for the future smart grid, for its autonomy, distributed energy resources hosting capabilities, enhancements in reliability and resilience, etc. This presentation delved into the networked microgrid hierarchies, i.e. primary, secondary, and tertiary, and provided a close-up look at the distributed tertiary control layer.

IEEE 2nd Industrial Electronics Conference for Sustainable Energy Systems (IESES 2020) held at Cagliari, Italy

[September 2, 2020] Professor Mo-Yuen Chow presented a key-note lecture on Resilient Networked Microgrids Energy Management Systems at IESES 2020 in Cagliari, Italy.

As technologies advances, the Networked Microgrids (NMG) is widely envisioned to be the future form of the smart grid, for its autonomy, distributed energy resources hosting capability, enhancements in reliability and resilience, etc. This presentation dissected the NMG vision into several key technologies in the cyber (communication network) and physical (power system) layers, to enable the resilience, reliability, and cost-effective operation of the networked NMG.

International Exchange and Research Seminar: Advanced Microgrid Management System: Centralized vs. Distributed and the Role of Batteries

[February 26, 2019] Professor Mo-Yuen Chow presented a guest lecture on Advanced Microgrid Management System at Chuo University, Japan.

The advanced microgrid, which is the theme of this lecture, is expected to become an important element of the future smart grid by automation, interoperability, and DER hosting function. Professor Mo-Yuen Chow is conducting research on microgrid management system (MGMS) with energy saving function enabling this advanced microgrid. In this lecture, MGMS concepts and application examples of the most advanced centralized and distributed MGMS were explained.
